What is XIRR?

XIRR (Extended Internal Rate of Return) finds the single annualized rate that accounts for cash flows happening on different, irregular dates - unlike CAGR, which assumes just one beginning and one ending date. It's the standard way fund houses report returns for SIPs and staggered investments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does XIRR matter for SIPs?

Each SIP installment is invested on a different date, so a simple CAGR can't capture the true return - XIRR accounts for the exact timing and size of every cash flow, which is why fund houses report SIP returns as XIRR.
